Editorials - Great game, how about more story?
I got Ocarina of Time a few days ago and have been playing it quite a bit since. I must be honest, it really did blow me away when I flicked the switch on. Really great graphics, and after years of playing the Zelda series, it's really great to have that kind of detail on Link and the other characters. I am only about half way through the game right now (I have a few of the medallions) and it has been great fun so far. One thing I wish there was more emphasis on is the story.

I like this game better than any of the previous Zelda games in terms of its fun factor. I have a hard time tearing myself away from the game. But there is one similarity that all of the Zelda series have in common. They are all lacking a great story, unlike the Final Fantasy series. You're pretty much just going from task to task to collect a series of magical thingies in order to open a thing in order to beat a guy in order to save the world. What I want is a more emotional storyline. I have yet to play a video game that has made me cry, and I really hope that soon enough there will be one out there. (Yes I'm an emotional guy, ok? So what!) The thing is, I like a really moving story. As I said, I haven't played a game that has really choked me up (Breath of Fire 2 came quite close however) and that disappoints me. I would gladly trade in the graphics of Z64 for a moving story. Perhaps in the next Zelda game (or other RPG for the 64) I'll be able to shed a tear at the loss of a main character, or a reunion with a lost loved-one or something. So let's have a really good story the next time a game is made, ok?

Now, you're probably thinking that I hate Z64, but I'm telling you it's a great game. Alls I'm saying is that it would be a REALLY great, incredible game if the story was a more emotional one. I am as I said about halfway through the game, so the game is gonna have to take one hell of a turn in order to impress me storywise. I think the best part so far was just after defeating the Forest Temple and talking to Saria. Then when you go back to Mido in the Lost Woods he says something like "...and tell Link that Saria... really... liked... him" Or something like that. Hey, that's the kind of stuff that gets me. I WANT MORE OF THAT! Bring it on you guys!
