The Interactive Story #1

Last chapter added : January 4, 1999

Link, an average teenager was living in Hyrule. Hyrule, a huge land with mountains, rivers, lakes, and a forest. Link was now 17 and on his way to being a Hyrulian man. Link was walking along the road one day with his horse, Epona, when he heard a telepathic message. It sounded like a man. The voice said, "Help me, Link. I am in Ganon's castle on Death Mountain. Please help me......" The voice was getting faint.
Link then hopped onto Epona and rode to the Hyrule castle to inform the King. But the guards informed him that the King had disappeared. Knowing what probably happened to the king, Link informed the guards about the message that he received. The guards were fat, slow, and out of shape, so they told Link to go up to Death Mountain and save the good King of Hyrule. The guards brought Link into the castle, and gave him equipment. They gave him a sword, a shield, a bow, and some arrows. They also gave him some food to help him on the way.
They sent him out on his horse the next day. It took about two days to reach the top of  Death Mountain. When Link finally reached the top, there were many dangerous monsters. A friendly looking elf came up to talk to him. He said:

- Dan

"Stay clear of this location," he grinned. "This mountain was not meant to be traversed!!"  With that, the mysterious elf disappeared.  Link jumped back, startled.  His gaze went to the summit of the great peak.
'Well', he thought to himself. 'That mountain isn't gonna climb itself.' With that, Link secured his sword and shield, and began clamoring up the side of the cliff.  It took a few hours more to reach the complete top, but when he did, Link flopped to the ground with a huge sigh.'Must be out of shape!' thought Link.
"Link!" called the voice again. "You are so close...don't give up!!" Link jumped to his feet and hurried toward the sound.   He finally came upon a great door carved out of rock.  The writing adorning the entrance was a language Link had never seen before.
He cautiously unsheathed his sword. As Link was about to open the door, he heard a sound behind him. Whipping around, Link came face to face with....

- Aaron

A strange young Elf of about equal age. Link was so startled that he had dropped his sword. The boy had silver-gray hair, and he was wearing a green tunic similar to the one Link was wearing. The boy had a slightly startled look on his tan face. The stranger seemed to be slightly smaller than Link himself. The boy had his long hair tied back, with jade beads woven into it. Coming out under his Tunic was light gray chain-mail. His slightly wide bright eyes showed his surprised expression. Several arrows had fallen out of his quiver. He had an accompanying longbow strapped to his back. The Stranger was obviously Hyrulian because of his pointed ears. One of which- his left ear- had a small ring on it. A small chain connected from the ring to a smaller ring on the tip of his ear.
"I'm sorry," said the stranger as he bent to pick up the arrows, "I didn't mean to startle you so."
"That's quite all right," replied Link, relaxing his sword arm.
"Thank you, I thought you might hurt me!"
"I wouldn't hurt you-" Link was cutoff
"Link, I need you!" said the voice once again.
"What was that? That voice... I followed it here..." the boy said.
"I know about as much as you do..." Link said.
"Are you going after it?" asked the boy.
     "You bet I am!!"
"I think I'd like to join you. May I?" said the boy.
"Yes, your company would be greatly appreciated! My name is Link, I'm from Kokiri Forest"
"My name is Gemlee, I'm from Hyrule City!" Smiling, Gemlee asks, "Well-.."
"Come Link, Come! I need your help..." fades the voice.
"We better get moving," said Link.
"Right." said Gemlee, giving an elfish grin.
"What language is that?" asked Link, gesturing towards the Door.
"I don't know. I'll bet my Grandpa knows."
"We should visit him once we find out whose voice that is." said Link.
"We should," said Gemlee as he unstrapped the longbow on his back. Link pushed on the chipped and weathered marble door. It slowly opened with a loud shrieking noise from rust-covered hinges. A gust of stale and dirty air rushed out of the dark opening. Eyes wide, Gemlee said "After you..." Link started forward, and was instantly thrown back. "What?" asked Gemlee.
"There is a force there. I can't go past it." Gemlee curiously pushed his hand into the dark doorway. He was instantly thrown back.
"Maybe the force has something to do with that writing..." said Link.
"Yes, let's go to my Grandpa's house. Maybe he'll come with us to tell us what those writings mean." They started towards the Lost Woods.
It grew late in the day as they were walking through the deep thicket between the moss-covered slender gray trees. Invisible brooks and streams bubbled in the distance, masked by tall ferns. There had been a rain here, for whenever one brushed up against a fern, showers of dew would fall and soak their clothes. A deep fog started to come in, low over the thicket.
"Maybe we should have followed the edge of the wood to a road..." said Gemlee.
"Should have, but didn't. I don't see what you're complaining about. I was born in woods south of these." said Link, "when we reach a clearing, we can find a road."
"Fine, whatever" said Gemlee as he brushed up against a fern. Crash! Something moved through the thicket.
     "What was that?" asked Gemlee.
"I don't know" said Link. Crash! Crash, rustle, rustle... "It's coming closer!" said Link. Suddenly, something jumped out of the brush. "Tektites!" yelled Link...

- Wicked Tribe

Link quickly drew his sword and shield and ran yelling toward the Tektites. A quick jab severed one of the creatures legs, making the appendage flop wildly on the ground, spraying Link with a viscous fluid. It didn't stop the monster. It only seemed to anger it. Link could see it was seething!!
All Gemlee saw was a glint of steel and a cry of triumph, as Link brought his sword down hard, piercing the monsters brain. There was a slight shriek from the creature, then it collapsed...dead. Gemlee was taken aback. This member of the Kokiri tribe WAS as great as he had heard! Link used the damp grass to wipe his bloody blade clean. Carefully he sheathed it and rose to his feet. He was unprepared for the look on Gemlee's face.
"What's wrong, Gemlee?" inquired Link. "You look dazed!!"
"N-nothing.." gulped the small boy. "The majesty of your swordwork, Link...pure beauty!!"
Link snorted. "Ahhh, stow it. You would have done the same!"
Gemlee's gaze fell to the ground. "No, I wouldn't."
Link looked confused. "What do you mean?"
"One of these creatures killed my family, and all I did was stand by and watch!! I am useless!"
Link placed a hand on his shoulder. "No one is useless, Gemlee...trust me!" Gemlees' face brightened. And with that, he and Link began their trek to his grandfathers' house.
After several hours, a house was visible over the hill.
"My grandfather's home." Link squinted and his eyes widened with fear.
     "His home is on FIRE!!!"

- Aaron

"Grandson, help me please..." begged Grandpa
"I am coming!" spotted Link. Link summoned his flute and played, what sounded like to Gemlee, a familiar tune. A mystical bird raised from the clouds and gathered them. "I'll be back!" shouted Link in a furry a fear.
The bird flew them to the local lake where they gathered all the water they could in the birds belly and bowels. They legendary bird spewed forth the ' lake' of water, and the blaze was dowsed. Link rushed to his Grandpa's rescue, but was to late.
"Grandson, take this. It is the secrets of all the Hyrulians magic. It contains the language and knowledge of all that has been and all that will be. Uhh! I have to go now. Live well."
"NOOOO!!!!, Grandpa!. Grandpa!? Why? What? What am I to do with this?"
The last spirit of Grandpa spurted " Find the 9 elders, and take it
from there...."
"I must find out who did this! Gemlee, I ask of you now, help me avenge my grandfather's death," Link cried.
    "I will." said Gemlee.

- Strife1937

As they set out on the Journey they encountered many people across the land. Link was always training Gemlee to become a better swordsman. Gemlee's skills were increasing day by day. One day they ran into a band of thieves, and Link took his bow and shot one of the four robbers in the head.
"GEMLEE look out!!!!!" Link cried as an arrow flew towards the air at him. Gemlee had just enough time to make one last diving move but, it was too late the arrow hit him in the chest. He fell bleeding to the ground but, he was still alive.
Link made a quick check to see if Gemlee was alive and then in a blaze of fury and anger ran towards the thieves. He slashed one across the abdomen and as the guts fell out Link had already killed the another by decapitation. He was down to the one who had shot Gemlee. The archer then prepared an arrow for Link. Before the man had got an arrow out of his quiver Link had sent one on its way. He realized it just in time to die.
Link ran to Gemlee who was bleeding pretty badly...

- Guyver

"You ok?" asked Link in a worried tone.
"Aye," he rasped, "it's not so bad, really."
"Let's get out of here before anything else happens." said Link. Link spoke a bit too soon. One of the bodies twitched, and then started moving... Link immediately pulled out his sword. The three other bodies started getting up. They slowly started walking towards link.
"Oh no! Redead!" cried Gemlee. The once-robber with entrails hanging out of his body, started walking towards Gemlee. Gemlee pulled out his longbow, and knicked an arrow in the string. He took aim, and then let go. Being the overly powerful longbow that it was, the barbed arrow hit the Redead in the upper chest area, and continued through it's body. The foul-smelling creature staggered, and then tripped over the intestines hanging out of it's belly, landing elbow-first onto a rock hidden among the grasses. Gemlee heard a distinctive "Crunch" as brittle bone snapped inside the pale-bloated dead skin.
While Gemlee was conquering the one Redead that attacked him, Link was busy not being bit by the moaning zombies. Another Redead, the one without it's head, was blindly walking into a tree over and over again nearby. The last two, each with arrows sticking out of their heads, walked toward Link. Link decided to get rid of both of them with one move. He held out his small elvish sword, and willed life into it. Small crackles of electricity skittered toward the end of the sword. Feeling that the sword had been filled to the maximum extent that such small objects allowed, he dashed up to the enemies, and let the energy go.
Immediately, the powerful force within the sword escaped at the sharp apex marked with runes. All link had to do was hold it as it powered itself in a roundhouse-like movement. The energy-laden sword sliced easily through the decaying bodies. The rest of the sword's energy left in a small magical blue shockwave that audibly shattered the weak bones in the now dead Redead, with a nasty "cuurch-crack". The last Redead had since killed itself by walking up against sharp branches that had worked their way into the slickly pale skin. Link made his way over to Gemlee, who had filled the other Redead with more then enough holes and arrows to kill the thing.
"How are you going?" asked Link.
"Fine, although it's very hard to move with an arrow sticking out of oneself."
"Here, let me see..." Link cringed as he felt along the bleeding wound. Gemlee cried out in pain. "Good, it's nowhere near anything important.." said Link.
"What the heck do you mean, nothing important!" cried Gemlee, "I've been hit by an ARROW!!"
"Don't worry, I can bandage it.." Link said as he tore a piece of cloth off of Gemlee's cloak. Link then snapped the arrow just above the welt. "This will hurt," Link said, and immediately pulled the arrow's head out.
"RAARGH!! Link, you dimwit! You could have KILLED me!!"
"It was only a flesh wound, you little baby. Next time I just might make you bandage yourself." said Link as he wrapped the cloth around his midsection. Link helped Gemlee up, and let him lean on his shoulders as he hobbled through the thick, deep grass. They walked a fair ways away from the battle scene, to a wide oak tree that was a little worse for wear. The old branches- many of which were dead or dying -were move slightly with the wind. The day was turning into dusk quickly.
The spot Link chose was under the vertically-challenged oak, in a small clearing of dirt. It looked odd- seeing a small brown splotch in the middle of a sea of wavering grass. A very small stream flowed by the outer edge of the clearing.
"We won't be able to get too far." Gemlee said, "We need to get to these fortresses where the maidens are held."
"I know, with your current disability..." Link then took out a small flute, " here ... let me call transportation." He then played several notes on the small wooden tube.
"What was that about?" asked Gemlee.
"I just called Epona. I regretted leaving her behind when we went into the forest. She'll be here by nightfall, probably. Until then, let's set up camp." He said, and then started to pick up dry grass. He also was breaking dead branches off of a nearby oak tree from time to time as he passed it on his search for dry grass.
"And you can teach me a few moves ... that is, if my almost-mortal wound will permit me to do so." Link raised an eyebrow, but continued to gather dry grass and sticks. Gemlee flashed a feral grin, his white teeth standing out in his dirt-smeared face. The dying sun cast golden beams on the wide trunk of the tree, bathing it in a warm glow. As Link readied the fire, the sound of pounding hoofs reached their ears.
"Epona!" said link happily, "I'm relieved to see you!" Whether the horse understood him or not, showed no indication. She just "Neighed" and looked on uncaringly. Link had gotten a brisk fire going, when he decided he needed more wood. Walking up to the old oak tree, Link pulled on a knotty old branch that hung fairly low to the ground. To his astonishment, the branch gave with a grinding noise. Slowly a small door opened up in the ancient tree. Link didn't look very calm as he studied it. A staircase carved out of wood slowly lead downward in a spiral. The door has obviously been closed for a long time, because clouds of dust were slowly diffusing outward with a slight wind blowing out from inside. Within, drops could be heard falling. 'pit..... pit..... pit......'
    "A cave?" asked Gemlee...

- Wicked Tribe

"Yes Gemlee," Link replied. Inside the cave was a monster so large, it over shadowed most of the cave. As the monstrous Dodongo rose from where it lay, the sight of a tiny object caught the eye of Gemlee.
The small boy started after it but Link was able to stop him in time. The Dodongo lunged forward to try and grab the young Gemlee. Link reached into his sack and found he only had two arrows and two bombs left. Immediately, Link attached the two weapons, and fired the bombs into the gigantic mouth of the enormous creature.
The creature faded away and eventually died. Then Link spotted the object Gemlee saw earlier. He ran to it and grasped the foreign object. It apparently was a small flute... or something of that matter.
A message came into Links head, "Thank You Link, I am Zelda, Princess of Hyrule. This is the Orcania of Time. You need to learn tunes and combine it with your sword to travel into areas you have only dreamed of. These objects can take you into the future or the past. Not only will you be able to help me, but perhaps someday you will save my kingdom, Hyrule."

- Sables Dude

Link wondered what he would do with this new magical item. He and Gemlee exited the cave and went out to the area known as Zora's river. Quickly, Gemlee and Link went through the river, hoping to never run into the half human Zoras. As Link and Gemlee approached a neat waterfall, Link remembered what a young shekian told him. She said to play the Lullaby to stop the water. Trying to think of a lullaby, Link played the first thing that popped into his mind. As he played the mystical tune the ground began to rumble. When he finished playing, the water fall was no more.
"Wow Link, what happened," asked Gemlee.
Link said, " I played the tune that stopped the water." As the two of them stood their, Zora approached and began to attack.

- Sables Dude

Link realized he's in for a battle, or was he? The Zora started to circle around Link with cautious eyes. He was completely outnumbered, and he knew he couldn't take them all down by his own self.
"Gemlee, what do I do?!?!? All I have is my sword and the ocarina..."Link said with fear in his eyes.
"Link,if there's one thing I should teach you, it's never to give up on a battle before you've fought it, try something and try it quick!" said Gemlee Link knew if he pulled out his sword, the 80 or so Zora would attack without hesitation. So, he decided he would try his Ocarina, but before he pulled it out, something caught his attention....
"What the..." In the blink of an eye,20 of the Zora had been slashed into pieces.
"W...w....what did that?" Soon, everyone was looking around to see what happened, then, in an instant, 40 more had been cut into nothing. Finally, the last few were slashed into bits and pieces.
"Gemlee, I never knew you could fight like tha...."
"Link, that wasn't me" said a scared Gemlee
"B......t......then who was that" Link said with a bit of fear..... Then he looked up. Out of the sky, a figure came down from the heavens with a sword in hand. The figure was blonde and had a mask on except on his eyes. He has a strange symbol on his chest that link was staring at....
"Where do I know that symbol from..." The figure looked Link and the eyes, and Link looked at him back. Then it spoke...
"I am alpha and omega. The start and the finish. The beginning and the end. I am Shiek"
"Why did you just help me, and what are you here for?"
"Link, you are one unlike others. You have a gift, and a duty. This world will soon be corrupt. Before you were born, you were chosen as one of the legendary heroes, the last of 7. They are in your bloodline. You must stop this world from becoming a depth of hell."
"But why, and why me? What do I have to stop? I'm confused.........and unsure..."said Link, with a curious face.
"Come Link, follow me into the future. You will see what is destined..."

- User571309

A mystical light began to rise from the area that Link, Gemlee, and Shiek stood. As quickly as the light appeared, it vanished. The sight that these three heroes saw was horrible. The Hyrule Plain was turned into a bare, deserted wasteland. This once beautiful land was covered with ReDead creatures, made of mud, and with one look into the eyes of the ReDead you would die instantly. Gemlee noticed another creature lurking around the area. This figure was a ghost that was flying around, waiting for its next victim.
Gemlee asked, " What happened?" As he did this, his eyes caught the eyes of a disgusting ReDead. Suddenly, Gemlee dropped to the ground, lifeless and pale.
"Gemlee....... Shiek, what shall we do?" asked a now frightened Link. Sheik said nothing, but instead drew a harp and played a song on it.
"This is the Tune of Time," said Sheik, "it will guide you to your answer. To revive Gemlee, you must replace the stones you have to their rightful labyrinth, then you must recover six medallions. Only then will you be able to save Gemlee, and return the beauty back to Hyrule. But first, see the Princess for the guidance to your quest. Will we meet again? That I do not know." And with that, Shiek, the survivor of the Sheikan's vanished.

- Sables Dude

Shiek vanished in a cloud of smoke. Link had a decision to make- would he attempt to save Gemlee, or continue on his true quest- to conquer Ganondorf. But his fate would be decided all to quickly.
Ganondorf had sent one of his henchmen, an evil sorcerer, to take out Gemlee and Link. He appeared within a blink of an eye, and hovered over top of Gemlee's wounded body.
A grin escaped Link's face. "What took you so long? The deal was when he goes down, you get here right away, and dispose of him." The sorcerer handed Link a small leather pouch. He opened it, and a red glow emerged from the bag. Link pulled out his bounty in rupees, counted them, and attached them to his belt.
Suddenly, Gemlee began to rise... "Wh.. Wha.. Why Link? Why... did you do it? This.. whole.. thing.. setup? You're.. the hero.. you can't..." Gemlee received a swift kick to the face.
"Gemlee- I couldn't stand it anymore. I've been saving this land for years. I've never had a true ally. My blood, my sweat, my tears... Was all for you ungrateful people of Hyrule. Who was protecting the Princess for years? Guards, who are paid by the King to take their lives for her? No. Me. A young man risking his entire life... to bring peace to my land. Well guess what- I've made my decision. I'm tired of protecting. It's time for me to play it safe- Ganondorf and I... Are going to rule the land together! Now, Gemlee, the question is- will you join me, or die like the rest?"
Gemlee, in a state of shock, nodded his head, closed his eyes, and prepared to receive his doom. Link drew his sword, but suddenly struck down the sorcerer. As the evil one crawled to his feet, he felt the cold steel of the master sword go through his stomach. He was impaled, and Link took a small elixir out of his robe. Gemlee looked at him in confusion, as Link forced the elixir down his throat. He began to feel less pain as his body healed. Link helped him to his feet, and shook his hand.
"Gemlee... you know, we'd make one hell of a team. You with me?"
Gemlee gazed into Link's eyes, and they both looked toward Death Mountain. "Let's go Link. Thanks for saving my life. I owe you one."
"No problem, Gemlee. I only hope that since I've watched your back, you can watch mine. Let us continue before Ganondorf learns of my deception."
"How did he trust you in the first place? Don't you think he's already set up a plan in case you did something like this?"
     "Gemlee- I'm counting on it..."

- John Mack

As Link and Gemlee were hiking across the vast fields of Hyrule on their way to defeat Ganondorf, something struck Link, in his mind, and he stopped.
"Wait," he said.  Gemlee halted as well, and looked at
his companion.
"Well, we are now on our way to fight Ganondorf," said Link.
    "Uh-huh," said Gemlee.
"But what about that mysterious telepathic message? The Medallions? The Elders? The Maidens? What was that all about?"
Gemlee sank to the ground, completely muddled.  "Gee," he said, "I don't know, really."
Link look about himself, at the trees, the sky, the hills in the distance, all with a wary eye.  "Something is awry.  I warrant we should head back to death mountain."
"I suppose so," said Gemlee.  And off they went.   And they made it all the way back to that sign they could not read.  On the way, Link was afflicted by a terrible set of headaches.
"Well," said Link, here we are.  Both stared at the cryptic letters, wondering what to do.  Suddenly, Link collapsed to the ground.
"Oh no!" cried Gemlee, "Not again.  What is the matter?"  After several moments of thrashing aimlessly on the ground, Link gathered his senses, rose to his feet, and brushed the dust off of his jerkin.
"The writing..." he said as he gazed at the ancient script.
Gemlee was ecstatic.  "Do you understand it, somehow?" he asked.
"No," said Link, distantly, "But I know how we can, even though we were given that book by your Grandfather." He began to zealously search about the edge of the cliff, his eyes burning with a fire only known in the cavernous mind of a madman.  Finally he stopped.  "There!" he exclaimed. Gemlee ran over, searched diligently, yet saw nothing.  He
remained silent.
"Don't you see it?" Link asked.
    "No . . ." said a confused Gemlee.
"The words, the words!" Link continued, "The words on the stone! They're there! Floating, in that odd box.  It says 'The field is the work of the sorcerer; the hero must
enter elsewhere. . .  There's our clue!"
Gemlee paused, thinking deeply, then spoke, "Link, have you gone mad?"
"Mad?" asked Link, "No.  But I have been divinely inspired.  Behold as the writing proves accurate!" With that, link ran over to an odd formation of cracks in the wall.  He pulled from his bag a bomb, already lit, and placed it by the cracks.  After several moments, the bomb burst, and from nowhere came seven or eight sounds of a chime.
"What the hell was that?" asked Gemlee, searching for the instrument which had created the notes
Link could only laugh.  "Those chimes," he said, "Mean that we found a secret entrance.  Come, we shall now enter."
Gemlee and Link entered a dark room.  It was perfectly rectangular, and though it was no doubt an ancient structure, the tiles were in perfect condition, all cut out in perfect squares.  Suddenly, three bats flew towards them.   "I'll take care of it," said Link, and he then pulled out a blue boomerang.  With divine accuracy he threw it systematically at all three bats, each time the boomerang returning to Link (even though it had hit an object), and each time the bats flashing red for a moment and then disappearing in a cloud of smoke.  A red heart fell onto the
ground.
"I still don't understand what the hell is going on," said Gemlee, as he walked upto the heart and picked it up. "What is this?" he asked, "Did the bats give us a
valentine?"
"No," said Link, grabbing the thing from his companion. It disappeared, making an odd sound.  "It refreshes ones life," Link said.
Gemlee did not bother to ask what that meant.
Link, once more, searched around in a manner without sanity.  He came upon a nice little urn, but soon picked it up and threw it to the ground.  Under it was some sort of circular panel imbedded into one of the tiles.  Link jumped onto it.  Suddenly a door, which Gemlee had not noticed before, opened up to the sound of chimes.
"There is that music, again!" Gemlee said, "Where does it come from?" But Link did not listen; he had already charged into the next chamber.   Gemlee followed, but
timidly.
It was a dark chamber, but soon it was lit up by glowing eyes and demonic laughter.  Suddenly four torches lit up to reveal a large pig in a cape.
    "It's Ganondorf!" Shouted Gemlee.
"No, not really," said the pig, "I'm just Ganon . . . sort of."
"A talking pig," said Gemlee, "Is still not a common sight.  This must be some sort of metaphor for your greed or something."
"Oh no," said Ganon, "I really am a just a pig in a cape that shoots lightning or whatever.  They tacked that greed stuff on after several of Linky-boy's quests."
Gemlee had forgotten about Link.  He had been jumping around Ganon slashing with a sword, and then shooting arrows from a bow that would materialize in his hands.
"You know, friend," Ganon said to Gemlee, "This is all just a ploy to fool Link."
    "What?" asked Gemlee.
"What?" asked Link, who had stopped fighting.
Suddenly, link found himself floating . . . in water, as he grasped onto some wooden boards.  He shook his head, looked around, and then slammed his fist onto wood.
"Damn it!" he cried, "I wish a ship would come soon! This is the second dream that has been too vivid, and this also is the second adventure I've had where the player has been tricked into a bad ending! When will it end?!"

- Joe

Funny Ending, eh? Maybe you could start the next story.
